Abstract
The article focuses on proposing a new global definition of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) by Matthay and colleagues, extending the Berlin definition to include high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), using oxygen saturation as measured by pulse oximetry (SpO2) as an alternative to PaO2 in certain cases, and allowing lung ultrasound (LUS) as an alternative imaging modality.
