The current war against Ukraine awakened the wish to look over Adler's shoulder during World War I, when he served as a military neurologist. The literature review revealed an obituary on Adler written by Dr. Maksymilian Blassberg that provides some interesting details about Adler's service at Kraków's military hospital, which, in the context of existing field letters written by Adler, allows one to fill in some missing links and to draw a psychobiography of Adler during this difficult time. The parallels of his life stimulate us to think about the dangers and conditions of today's wars. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
