Abstract
Trachoma is a leading cause of blindness worldwide, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. The World Health Organization (WHO) has established a goal to eliminate trachoma as a public health problem by 2020. To achieve this, updated and accessible maps of the distribution of trachoma are needed for advocacy, planning, and operational research purposes. These maps can help showcase control efforts, refine ongoing efforts, estimate disease burden, and inform operational research. The International Centre for Eye Health and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine have collaborated to develop an updated global atlas of trachoma, which is publicly available and includes district-level prevalence maps and disaggregated estimates of trachoma for research purposes.
