Abstract
The article recounts the life and work of Carlo Urbani, a communicable disease expert for the World Health Organization (WHO) in Hanoi, Vietnam. It highlights the career of Urbani with WHO and his accomplishments including identification of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in Vietnam which later became an outbreak and led to the global surveillance of SARS cases. It commends Urbani for his dedication to helping protect and save the lives of people.
