Abstract
Also, not all consecutive patients who underwent thyroid surgery were evaluated for swallowing after the surgery (The temporary RLN palsy rate reported by our institute is at 6.8% [[23]]). Six patients (11.8%) had bilateral vocal cord palsy, 5 out of these 6 patients with bilateral vocal cord palsy were operated on outside at other centres. Every patient should be counselled pre and post-surgery regarding the chances of swallowing impairments that can be encountered after surgery, especially in the presence of vocal cord palsy.
