Abstract
The article offers information on how nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) exacerbate Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) by disrupting colonic epithelial cells and sensitizing them to C. difficile toxin-mediated damage, independent of their usual role of inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes. The study demonstrates that NSAIDs and C. difficile toxins target the mitochondria of colonic epithelial cells, leading to increased damage and inflammation during CDI.
