FNAC is usually done for localised mass lesions, especially those mimicking malignancy.[9] Very few cases of pulmonary actinomycosis are diagnosed on cytology, especially on BAL samples when compared to FNAC. A single reported case showed a ball-in-hole appearance on chest X-ray, CT chest, and bronchoscopic examination.[3] Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is the most commonly performed procedure for the diagnosis of pulmonary actinomycosis.
