In one patient a bilateral modified transmanubrial approach was necessary in one patient to permit a cava vein resection. Major intraoperative/postoperative complications were detected in two patients: one patient required an intraoperative blood transfusion due to a venous bleeding occurring during the cava vein dissection (2 units) and one patient had an irreversible recurrent nerve injury.
