Abstract
This study aimed to eliminate Cd(II) ions from aqueous solutions by Corn Silk/Zeolite-Y (CS/ZY) adsorbent. The prepared composite was characterized by FTIR, SEM, XRD, TEM, and BET analysis. The adsorption process was optimized by central composite design (CCD). Four factors including the solution pH (2.0–6.0), Cd(II) concentration (2.5–12.5 mg L−1), contact time (5.5–11.5 min), and adsorbent dose (0.005–0.01 g) were considered, and the optimal condition of parameters for maximum cadmium adsorption was as follows: pH 5.0, adsorbent dosage: 0.009 g, cadmium concentration: 10.0 mg L−1, and contact time: 7.0 min. The kinetic and equilibrium data were well-fitted by pseudo-second-order and Langmuir models (qm = 315.27 mg g−1). The obtained results related to the reusability of the CS/ZY composite after five sorption desorption cycles offered promising potential in industrial activities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
