Abstract
Pruritus in the elderly has many causes including primary skin disorders, systemic diseases, drugs, and neurological and psychiatric disorders.1 Regardless of the cause, the incidence of pruritus increases with age, and the burden of this condition has a negative impact on quality of life.2,3 The condition is often refractory to conventional treatments such as antihistamines, corticosteroids, and cyclosporine, and their use is limited due to the comorbidities of elderly patients. Here we present three cases of elderly patients with eczema and lichen amyloidosis who responded rapidly to baricitinib, a Janus Kinase (JAK) 1/2 inhibitor approved for rheumatic arthritis and atopic dermatitis, with no reported adverse effects.
