Abstract
The article focuses on archaeological excavations conducted by Mexican and U.S. archaeologists in Tizatlán, Tlaxcallan, the ancient state in central Mexico, which reveals a decentralized, consensus-based political system with an egalitarian class structure. Topics discussed include a brief history of the state's resistance to Aztec domination, a description of the houses in the city, and a compression of wealth and equality in the state theorized by archaeologist Lane Fargher.
