The article explores the secret religious rite of the Greek mystery cult Samothrace. Topics discussed include the role of secrecy in the minimal details about the cult, benefits of the initiation such as protection of gods at sea and in times of need according to archaeologist Bonna Wescoat, and investment of Samothracians in new monuments on the western hill to promote the sanctuary amid the international popularity of the cult of the Great Gods starting in the fourth century.
