Abstract
One of the essential infections during older adult age is urinary tract infection (UTI), which can impose significant treatment costs on the patient and lead to death. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of urinary tract infection among Iranian older adults. The present study carried out using a meta-analysis method during the years 2000–2018. Articles related to the subject of this study obtained by searching through Persian databases, including SID and Magiran, and English databases such as Medline (PubMed), ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. The heterogeneity of the articles has examined by I2 index, and data analysis has done by the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software. In the 11 articles entered into the meta-analysis, 4419 patients in the age range of 50 to 95 years have studied. According to the Meta-Analysis, the overall prevalence of urinary tract infection in older Iranians was 26.8% (CI 95%: 18.7% -37.6%)(CI 95%: 18.7% -37.6%). As this study shows, a significant decrease was found in the prevalence of urinary tract infection in Iranian older adult population over the past two decades (P < 0.05). Regarding the high prevalence of urinary tract infection in this study, health policymakers have required to pay more attention to this disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
