Abstract
This paper review several methods used to develop and optimize horizontal axis wind turbines to maximize their efficiency. The development of horizontal wind turbines starts from the development of renewable energy in the world because fossils as the main energy sources are getting less. Methods to test performance and design can be adopted using the classical momentum theory, which then develops into the Blade Element Moment (BEM) theory and uses numerical assessments using Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) software. This software utilizes Navier-Stokes equations that cannot be solved analytically, so it must use the process of discretization (meshing) and solved numerically on a computer. The tested performance is an aerodynamic performance in several other studies, structural performance on horizontal wind turbine blades is also discussed and related to aerodynamic performance. Some parameters that influence horizontal wind turbine analysis are the number of blades, the type of airfoil, the lift force of the airfoil, and relative wind speed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
