Abstract
In October 2019, extremely impressive, fresh ruptures of the surface on the mud volcano of Mount Karabetova were discovered. The ruptures are represented by all the main kinematic types and demonstrate structural patterns that are characteristic of typically tectonic deformations. The total length of the ruptures from south to north is slightly less than 600 m. Repeated measurements showed high displacement rates ranging from 50 to 140 cm in three months. The fresh ruptures marked the further development of more ancient similar landforms. They are caused by the existing structure and can be interpreted as potentially hazardous objects on other mud volcanoes. It can be assumed that ruptures may result from increased pressure in the mud volcano chamber and can be a forecasting indication of an upcoming eruption. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
