Abstract
Twelve tropical cyclones impacted Mexico in 2018, resulting in the country's most active season on record and contributing to wetter-than-average conditions across much of the nation during late September-October, the peak of the tropical cyclone season. In early January, Tropical Cyclone Ava contributed to heavy rainfall and flooding in Mauritius, including a 24-h rainfall total of 311 mm. During the South Asian pre-monsoon, monsoon, and post-monsoon seasons, flood- and heavy rain-related incidents claimed over 800 lives across parts of India.
