Abstract
The article discusses nonprofit investigative news agencies initially funded by foundations, and their search for a financially sustainable business model. Several such organizations and their editors and directors are discussed, including: the Center for Investigative Reporting, headed by Robert J. Rosenthal; the Rocky Mountain Investigative News Network, headed by Laura Frank; the Center for Public Intergity, founded by Charles Lewis; and others. Major donors to these agencies discussed include the NoVo Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and others.
