Abstract
The article presents important points for a journalist to focus on during coverage of campaigns. According to David Broder of the "Washington Post," reporters covering debates should not focus on hot-button themes, but rather on the concerns of the average citizens. In addition, Broder also suggests that journalists should also take sides in a campaign so as to benefit the election process rather than the candidate. TV personalities should consider the interest of the audience instead of focusing on gossip and entertainment. An example is presented when presidential candidate Bill Clinton guested in the show "Donahue." A member of the audience had to point out to "Donahue" that discussing the numerous problems of the U.S. is worth much more than attacking the candidate's character.
