Abstract
The article "Maria Immacolata Vassallo de Lopes and the 30 years of the Telenovela Studies Center at USP: a journey narrated by telefiction" highlights the career of researcher Maria Immacolata Vassallo de Lopes and the trajectory of the Telenovela Studies Center at USP over 30 years. The telenovela is considered the main cultural product of Brazilian television and has been the subject of study by the researcher for decades. The article also addresses the creation of the Telenovela Research Center at USP, its achievements, and the expansion of studies to other narratives broadcast on TV and streaming platforms. The Telenovela Studies Center at USP has had several coordinators over the years and has carried out important work, such as the partnership with Globo and the reconstruction of the collection after a fire. Additionally, the article discusses the work of the Ibero-American Television Fiction Observatory (OBITEL) and highlights the importance of encouraging research on fiction products and involving new generations in these studies.
