Abstract
The article presents the presidential address given by Claes H. de Vreese at the 2021 meeting of the International Communications Association (ICA) titled "Ten Observations." He discusses how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted communications, argues why scholarly values matter and why scholarship should be open, and notes that big tech has become too powerful.
