Abstract
An introduction is presented in which the editor discusses various reports within the issue on topics related to health literacy including Dickens et al.'s examination of nurses’ awareness and estimation of their patients’ literacy skill, Cafiero's investigation of nurse practitioners’ knowledge and use of health literacy communication strategies, and Kim et al.'s investigation of the use of visual versus auditory methods of explaining conditions and treatments to patients with limited literacy skills.
