Abstract
The authors discuss the classification of sign language practices and users. Topics explored include the authentication of American Sign Language (ASL) and British Sign Language (BSL) as full-fledged languages, the sociolinguistic ecologies of the Nicaraguan Sign Language (NSL) and Al-Sayyid Bedouin Sign Language (ABSL), and the need for further ethnographic research into the language use of deaf people.
