Abstract
This article examines the impact of the consolidation on coverage on redefining "local" radio news in the U.S. Deregulation in the radio industry has resulted in a much greater concentration of ownership since passage of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. Large media conglomerates control a growing majority of local radio outlets throughout the United States, as a number of researchers have noted.
