Pain following craniotomy is a disputed phenomenon. This article will aim to explore and examine the contemporary approaches to post-craniotomy pain, the knowledge surrounding its physiology and pain-reduction strategies. How post-craniotomy pain is assessed across neurosurgical centres will be explored and its limitations identified. Both existing and novel pain therapies will be examined via the comparison of scientific research articles, with an aim to identify effective and safe methods of alleviating or preventing post-craniotomy pain. The overall findings of the article will be summarised and recommendations made for clinical use or further investigation.
