Abstract
The ``tail'' of the title is assumed to have the form of a cruciform wing and its motion due to periodic disturbances is considered. The disturbances might be due, for example, to a forward wing. Quasi-steady theory is employed so that second and higher powers of the reduced frequency are neglected. Generalised conical flow methods are used to calculate the reduced potential and hence the perturbation velocities for two special cases in which the tail has (1) subsonic leading edges and (2) one supersonic leading edge, the remainder being subsonic.
