Abstract
The author explains in the preface that the book is based on a series oflectures given to graduate students both at the University of Illinois andat Oxford University and is intended to provide a framework for such acourse given primarily to graduate students in applied mathematics.\parThe book is what it says it is; it is a textbook for a particular kind ofstudent based on a particular course. The book's contents reflect theinterest of the author. The presentation is merely good. The book has beenreproduced from a camera ready manuscript of which the typing was adequatebut nothing more. The text even contains the typical misprints and minorerrors which one expects from a first draft prepared for students.
