Abstract
The authors establish six common fixed point theorems in symmetricspaces by considering pairs of mappings satisfying a generalizedcontractivity condition of integral type. The first four theoremsinvolve pairs of pointwise $R$-weakly commuting mappings, in the sense ofR. Pant [J. Math. Anal. Appl. {\bf 226} (1998), no.~1, 251--258; MR1646430 (99h:54063)], of which at least one pair is weaklycompatiblein the sense of G. F. Jungck and B. E. Rhoades [Indian J. Pure Appl.Math. {\bf 29} (1998), no.~3, 227--238; 1617919 ]. Theorems 5and 6involve pairs of weakly compatible mappings and the concept of pair ofmappings having the property (E.A.) introduced by M. Aamri and D. ElMoutawakil\ [J. Math. Anal. Appl. {\bf 270} (2002), no.~1, 181--188; MR1911759(2003d:54057)]. Results of Rhoades [Int. J. Math. Math. Sci.{\bf 2003}, no.~63, 4007--4013; MR2030391 (2005b:54074)] andP. Vijayaraju, Rhoades and R. Mohanraj [Int. J. Math. Math. Sci. {\bf 2005}, no.~15, 2359--2364; MR2184475 (2006g:54050)] are alsogeneralized.
