Abstract
TRANSformas is an artistic intervention project in the prison environment that follows two main courses of action: non-formal education and promotion of culture. It leads an image and theatre creation group (photograph, video) at Quatre Camins prison centre (Barcelona), a puppet and theatre creation group at Wad Ras prison centre (Barcelona) and produces shows, photograph exhibitions and diverse publications. The team is an active part of EUROsociAL programme and, in a first stage, it has participated in the creation of the Latin-American Education Network in Prisons (REDIece). Through this network, it develops training activities for trainers, technical assistance activities and significant experience exchanges with European Union countries. It organises training activities linked to culture in prison and artistic education; it provides technical assistance in the field of theatre. TRANSformas started its theatre creation work at Quatre Camins Prison Centre in the north of Barcelona in 2004. Since 2006 it is part of an image training activity (photograph - video) in parallel with theatre training, with Pau Coll, photographer of RUIDO and the collaboration of FiNmatun association in video. The Generalitat de Catalunya Justice Department confidence in the work carried out by the TeatroDentro-bcn / TRANSformas project team enables the stabilisation of the project and the creation of a second working line at Women Prison Centre in Barcelona since 2007. Therefore, the activities include theatre training, and operating and organising a puppet manufacturing workshop, and programming of shows. Reprinted by permission of the publisher.
