Highlights from the article: At the beginning of the unit, many students could identify what a GPS was, but they were not able to identify that GPS stood for "global positioning system." For our lessons, we acquired 10 GPS units for our students to use since our students do not have access to smartphones during the school day.7 Each third-grade class is composed of 13 students, so we were able to partner the students to use the GPS units. Now that my students have the skills needed for orienteering and geocaching, I am already planning a dinosaur dig using the GPS units and my students' map skills.
