Abstract
The article comments on factors leading to mental health crisis in sports. It discusses emerging adulthood as a challenging phase of life for young people that may overlap with athletic achievement and peak incidence age for mental health disorders. It points incidence of racism and discrimination among minority athletes, increasing professionalization of sports at younger ages, lack of mental health literacy and resources, and psychological effects of technology and the COVID-19 pandemic.
