Abstract
The author presents a synopsis of the concluding part of the Nibelungenlied, with a view to stirring interest in the epic as a monument of a people's poetical feeling. It begins with the public display of the corpse of Siegfried, with Kriemhild and her brother Gunther watching by the side of the bier. The commentary at the of the article end points out the grandness of scale of provocation and sorrow with which the tale is endowed. The loftiness of the poem is exemplified by the heroic figure of Hagen, the one-eyed, grim-faced warrior. Unity of the entire work is provided through the central character Kriemhild, who figures prominently in both the beginning and the end of the story.
