Abstract
The authors ponder on the roles of science teachers in shaping the knowledge, abilities, emotions and thinking of both their student and colleagues. Topics discussed include the history of U.S. school curriculum and its relationship to societal factors, pivotal events leading to changes in the U.S. educational system and the challenges facing science teachers.
