Abstract
A study investigated the current state of the field of comparative education. Participants were 419 members of the Comparative International Education Society (CIES) from the U.S. and other countries. Results revealed that the demographic composition of the CIES population is mainly North American with distinctive heterogeneous elements. Moreover, the field of comparative education demonstrates continued growth and vitality, despite multifarious difficulties. However, its relatively steep turnover in members and conspicuously young age demographic could pose increased challenges for maintenance of cumulative gains in inquiry lines, continuity of boundary, and a sustained sense of the historical development of the field.
