Abstract
Authentic student voice within the assessment of student learning requires meaningful student input and institutional support. Previous examinations of this topic have primarily linked student voice with two approaches: student representation and student partnership. This 2023 AALHE Conference session introduced a third approach: student leadership. A case study from a Midwestern college is used to exemplify this approach. It is suggested that student-led assessment improves the authenticity of student voice and the reliability of assessment results. Additionally, for institutions that prioritize leadership development, student-led assessment can demonstrate the achievement of this goal as students fill a leadership role in their institutions.
