Abstract
Discusses the role that can be played by the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Agreement on Agriculture 1994 in disciplining the trade-distortive effects of national agricultural policies adopted as a climate change mitigation strategy. Examines its application to the US subsidies and tax incentives provided to farmers for the development of the ethanol biofuel industry. Analyses the relationship between agriculture and climate change. Considers how the WTO regime could become more effective in this area.
