Abstract
This, the second in a three part series, provides an overview of cases brought against the police for the benefit of practitioners representing claimants. Looks at decisions on: (1) the disclosure of the identity of police informant; (2) similar fact evidence in a case alleging malpractice by police officers; (3) jury findings and deliberations; (4) vicarious liability for the actions of off duty police officers or police officers acting corruptly; (5) the right to a jury trial in cases of false imprisonment or malicious prosecution; (6) balancing disclosure against confidentiality; and (7) the obiter discussion on exemplary damages in Kuddus v Chief Constable of Leicestershire Constabulary on whether exemplary damages could be awarded in a claim for misfeasance in public office.
