Abstract
Presents recommendations for the oversight of human subject medical research in the US into nanodiagnostics and nanotherapeutics to ensure that sufficient protection is being afforded to all its participants and the environment. Calls for the establishment of an interagency Human Subjects Research in Nanomedicine Working Group and a federal advisory committee comprising outside experts and other stakeholders, and outlines their suggested functions and forms of co-operation. Discusses how this oversight mechanism can address the ethical challenges raised by this research.
