Abstract
Notes the Queen's Bench Division judgment in Porter v Zurich Insurance Co on whether the mental state of the insured, at the time he deliberately started a fire at his home, meant that he was not aware of the nature and quality of his act and therefore not legally responsible for his actions. Considers the legal test for insanity established under the M'Naghten rules.
