Abstract
Reports on the Employment Appeal Tribunal decision in Amnesty International v Ahmed on whether an employer's failure to promote an employee to the role of Sudan Researcher, because it believed that her Sudanese ethnic origin would result in impartiality and could expose her to increased health and safety risk when in the region, amounted to direct race discrimination and constructive unfair dismissal. Considers whether there should be a two step approach to the question of direct discrimination.
