Abstract
Examines, in light of the threats posed to law firms by the economic downturn, alternative business structures, cuts in legal aid funding and the proposed changes to civil litigation costs, the potential opportunities for diversification into non-legal services. Reviews the experiences of the author's own law firm's diversification through the setting up of three separate limited companies providing: (1) home information packs, conveyancing searches and property surveys; (2) costing for other law firms; and (3) data archiving and storage.
