Abstract
The primate aging literature is extensive, and as such, this chapter will be limited to how primate reproduction, sexual behavior, and social behavior change with aging. With regard to reproductive senescence, male and female primates have shown some similarities with humans as well as some notable differences. Studies have also documented differences in social behavior shown by aging primates, which may include such changes as decreased interaction with group members. Primates are such a diverse group that reproductive and social changes with aging can manifest differently in different species and may occur in some populations of a species yet be absent in others. The social benefits of reaching an advanced age for old individuals and their group members should not be overlooked, making aging a process that can come with advantages as well as disadvantages for older primates.
