Abstract
This research analyses the theoretical framework of Joan Fontcuberta, in the period between 1984 and 2013, as a paradigm of the reflexion intertwined with the artistic practice in the Spanish photographic field, and proposes a conceptual genealogy that synthesises the essential in the evolution of his thinking as well as the main influences on which it is built with the intention to establish the foundations for a later research to formulate a new methodology for the Theory of Photography which progresses from the ideas to the authors. It aims at two main objectives: 1- To know and to study the evolution of the theoretical framework of Joan Fontcuberta as a paradigm of the thought intertwined with the artistic practice in the Spanish photographic field. 2- To build, on the theoretical framework of Fontcuberta, a conceptual model as a new methodology approach to Theory of Photography. The methodology we have used is based on the previous research we did for the Master Thesis, The Theoretical Framework of Joan Fontcuberta. An Approach to the Current Status (2009), in which we established the status of the literature issue, which has been updated only as far as monographs are concerned, adapting it to the international standard APA. We have also updated the Cards of Fontcuberta Photographic Projects we made, incorporating new works and adapting its content to facilitate their use as reference material. As far as the analysis of the texts is concerned, we rely on a conditional interpretation of hermeneutics to our objectives: unravelling and interpreting the elements that appear in the writings of Joan Fontcuberta with the aim of implementing the intellectual, literary or aesthetic references that form his universe. A methodological adaptation in which we outline more precisely the approach of the analysis made in the Master Thesis and preferentially guiding it to its didactic application, striving for collecting the essential quotes from the texts, extracting the main ideas of his thought contained in the same and highlighting the main influences on the foundation of his reflexion, forcing us to limit our subject of study around his own writings and setting aside other possibilities, such as the inquiry of his undercover influence or the influence his work has had on other artists, to further research. The conclusions have been expressed in the form of a concept map, entitled Arboris Fontcuberta. Conceptual genealogy (1984-2013), available online that it is impossible to translate into a condensed verbal expression. The final conclusion of this research, therefore, is that by means of the theoretical framework of Fontcuberta, that synthesizes numerous references, it is possible to build a didactic model, which allows an approach to the Theory of Photography progressing from ideas to the authors.
