A review on the preparation of borides and classification of boride structures is presented. The crystal chemistry of borides with two- and three- dimensional boron networks is described. The metal-boron systems, including borides of the alkali and alkaline earth metals. borides of rare earth metals and actinides, and borides of the transition metais of groups IV, V, VI, VII, and VIII are discussed in detail, The thermal, mechanical, magnetic, electrical, and bonding properties of borides are also presented.
