Abstract
An analysis of 29 hypernuclei, produced by the interactions of K/sup -/ mesons and SIGMA /sup -/ hyperons in nuclear emulsion and decaying in the pi / sup -/-mesic mode, is presented. Binding energies of the A/sup o/ hyperon in the hypernuclei /sub LAMBDA /H/sup 4/(6 events), /sub LAMBDA /He/sup 4/(4 events), / sub LAMBDA /He/sup 5/(9 events) and /sub LAMBDA /Li/sup 9 /(1 event) are obtained as (2.37 plus or minus 0.30) Mev, (2.27 plus or minus 0.27) Mev, (3.27 plus or minus 0.18) Mev, and (7.75 plus or minus 0.80) Mev, respectively. The binding energies are derived from the /sub LAMBDA /-value determined in the same emulsion stack from which the hyperfragment data originate. This makes the systematic errors in the binding energies negligible; the errors quoted are therefore only statistical. Besides the most commoniy occurring decay mode of / sub LAMBDA /He/sup 5/, the rare decay mode /sub LAMBDA /He/sup 5/ yields He/ sup 3/ + He/sup 2/ + pi /sup -/ is also observed. (auth)
