Abstract
We present a perturbative quantization of the chiral Schwinger model. This quantization does not introduce additional fields and gauge fixing is not necessary. The canonical structure of the resulting quantum theory is analyzed by means of calculating the equal-time commutators. In this calculation the uncritical application of the Bjorken-Johnson-Low limit leads to incorrect results.
