Abstract
Synovial tissue and synovial fluid cells were investigated after intraarticular administration of radioactive gold (Au$sup 198$). By autoradiographic investigations Au$sup 198$ was detected in synovial fluid cells, synovial lining cells and macrophages in the synovial membrane. Examinations by means of energy-dispersive X-ray microanalysis demonstrated gold and mercury depositions in the synovial membrane. The existence of mercury 8 weeks after administration of radiogold may be responsible for the longstanding therapeutic effect of radiogold therapy. (orig.)
