Abstract
The process of data generation for a data base normally requires preparation of the data according to the specifications of the features configured in a computer-based system. The data base used in a computerized Energy Control Center (ECC) system to monitor and control a power network is an example. At some of these centers, the on-line data are prepared and entered manually into the data base. The Generating On-Line Data (GOLD) programs, presented here, can replace the laborious phases of data generation. These programs provide a simple and convenient facility in which to generate the complete on-line data set, without touching the details of data construction. This means that the specifications set for the data configuration in a particular network will be accomplished by its GOLD program. The data-base system at an ECC consists mainly of two different kinds of on-line data bases. First is the object data base (ODB). This data base is composed of the on-line data of all the objects present in the power network to be monitored. An object in the ODB represents a power system device or an electrical measurement in a Supervisory Control and Data-Acquisition (SCADA) system. Second, the centralized data base of Power Application Software (PAS). These application programs are employed at an ECC to protect the power system's integrity and to provide efficient operation. This article describes the basic techniques used in developing similar GOLD programs.
