Abstract
The biological effects of gamma and x rays on albino rats were investigated following 900-r doses, with special reference to body weight and survival time. The adrenal weight increased from the fourth dav after exposure. Analyses indicated increases in the urinary formaldehydogenic steroids (FGS) on the first and third day after exposure to 900-r of x rays and decreased gradually until the rat died. The response of urinary FGS to ACTH-Z on the 2nd and 5th day after irradiation revealed;ow adrenocortical activih. It was found that rats injected with ACTH-Z in a four-unit dose on the second day after exposure survived longer than those not injected or injected on the flfth day. (B.O.G.)
