Abstract
A simple titrimetric method for the determination of zirconium in zirconium naphthenate and octoate driers is rapid and precise and yields results in close agreement wtth the mandelic acid gravimetric procedure. The drier is dissolved in 1 to 4 sulfuric acid, and an excess of standard EDTA solution is added. The unreacted EDTA is back-titrated with standard bismuth nitrate solution to the thiourea end point. Only 0.3 gram of sample is required, and a single determination can be made in 40 minutes. The standard deviation of the method for n 6% drier is 0.05%. (auth)
