Abstract
The recently increased interest in the generation of second harmonics (..omega../sub 2/ = 2..omega../sub 1/) in a magnetoactive plasma is due to laboratory experiments and phenomena in space. In earlier studies we have investigated in detail the magnetic-field range corresponding to the inequalities 2 greater than or equal to ..omega../sub 1//..omega../sub ce/ greater than or equal to 1.5, ..omega../sub ce/ = eH/sub 0//m/sub e/c. The results have been interpreted as the combination generation of Bernstein waves l/sub 1/ + l/sub 1/ ..-->.. l/sub 2/ with the resonance conditions 2..omega../sub 1/ = ..omega../sub 2/, 2 vector k/sub 1/ = vector k/sub 2/. In the present paper we consider the range N + /sup 1///sub 2/ greater than or equal to ..omega../sub 1//..omega../sub ce/ greater than or equal to N, N = 1.2, where the above three-plasmon process is forbidden.
